1 Why “Parcc”?

The future contemporary art center of Labenne, supported by the Maremne Adour Côte Sud Community of Communes (Macs), finally has a name: Parcc, an acronym for Contemporary Creative Art Center.

“We did a lot of research internally, led collective reflection sessions,” explains director François Loustau. The focus was set on Parcc, “with two ‘C’s” for not being conventional,” says Pierre Froustey, president of Macs. “It seems simple but it deserved a lot of debate, for the graphics too. »

The name of Parcc makes the natural environment of the place “resonate”, highlights François Loustau, who underlines a “specificity”: it will be open all year round, even on weekends. “On Sundays, we go to Parcc,” he smiles.

2 The configuration of the place

The place is remarkable for its geographical location, in the center of Labenne. And yet, “it’s a building that you don’t see in the city, isolated in a green setting,” presents François Loustau. To access it, “it’s an experience, a journey”. The car park is only 200 meters away, but it is not visible from the Parcc.

The 800 square meter, “multifunctional” site has 300 square meters of exhibition space and 160 square meters of workshops for local artists and residencies. The exhibition space is divided into three parts: a large room of 200 square meters and 6 meters high, a more intimate room and a black box, dedicated to video.

3 Programme inaugural

The official inauguration is announced on Friday June 7, 2024. The opening to the public is planned for Saturday June 8 and Sunday June 9 with workshops, meetings, guided tours and a Tu Roules pour l’art veloparade.

From June 10 to 14, the Parcc will open to children, associations, etc. Before moving on to the weekend of June 15 and 16, dedicated to Forest Nights, with workshops and concerts.

On the exhibition program: in the large room, “We Love the World”, an exhibition with 19 international artists, “for environmental awareness”; in the small room, to counterbalance the large one, an invitation to the “subtle” of a Bordeaux artist and in the black box, a video “which shows the incongruity of a desire for wild nature in the practice of tourism of mass “.

4 Parcc policy

Le Parcc, which has an annual budget of 390,000 euros and employs four employees, aims to be “welcoming”, underlines François Loustau. Objectives presented: “conviviality and desire to make today’s culture accessible to all”, “strong commitment to environmental issues and resonances with the territory” and “open governance with calls for projects and selection committees multidisciplinary “.

The site will be open to schools and will also have the possibility of organizing other events, such as concerts.
