Palestine – Today, Monday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas begins a visit to Saudi Arabia, during which he will meet King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and other officials.
The Palestinian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bassem Al-Agha, told the Voice of Palestine radio (government) that Abbas “will arrive in Saudi Arabia on Monday and will hold his meetings on Tuesday.”
Al-Agha stated that the visit comes as a continuation of previous visits, “and there is continuous communication with the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its distinguished and well-established stances towards Palestine, and to discuss the latest political developments,” without specifying the duration of the visit.
He said that Abbas “will talk at length with King Salman and with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman regarding the Zionist crime in Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the suffering of the Palestinian people in terms of killing, displacement, and blowing up and demolishing homes.”
He added that the meeting will deal with “the Palestinian issue and Arab relations (…) and what the Palestinian people and Jerusalem suffer from, among the priorities of every dialogue and discussion of the Palestinian president.”
According to the Palestinian ambassador, Abbas will hold other meetings (which he did not specify) as time permits.
The announcement of Abbas’s visit to Riyadh coincides with what a well-informed Palestinian source revealed, on Sunday, to Anadolu Agency, that a high-ranking Hamas delegation led by Ismail Haniyeh, head of the movement’s political bureau, will start a visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday, the first of its kind in years.
There was no immediate comment from the Saudi authorities on the two visits.
And on Friday/Saturday night, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, hosted a “consultative meeting” in which the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain, and the diplomatic advisor to UAE President Anwar Gargash participated, condemning “Israel’s illegal practices that undermine the two-state solution (.. ) and the attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
