Palestine – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for limiting Eid al-Fitr activities to religious rituals, due to the “Israeli war of annihilation” that has been ongoing in the Gaza Strip for 6 months.
This came according to what was reported by the official Palestinian News Agency, Wafa, yesterday, Tuesday, on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, which falls on Wednesday.
She said: “President Mahmoud Abbas called for Eid al-Fitr activities to be limited to religious rituals only, in view of the difficult circumstances that our people are going through as a result of the continuation of the war of extermination once morest which they are being subjected by the occupation authorities in Gaza, as well as the aggression in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Islamic and Christian holy sites.”
Abbas continued: “I ask the Almighty God that the martyrs of our people may rest in His vast mercy and reside in His spacious gardens, and that healing be for the wounded, and a near relief for the prisoners. We hope to God that the next Eid will come and the freedom and independence that our people aspire to will be achieved, and that the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital will be embodied.” And the return of refugees.”
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of victims, most of them children and women, a humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure, which led to Israel being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing genocide.
