Palestine – The Palestinian Football Association announced yesterday, Thursday, that it had submitted a project to the upcoming FIFA Congress in the Thai capital, Bangkok, in order to hold Israel accountable for its violations once morest Palestinian sports.
The Federation’s website published a statement by Major General Jibril Rajoub, President of the Palestinian Federation, in which he said: “A draft resolution has been submitted to the next FIFA Congress in order to hold Israel accountable for its violations once morest Palestinian sports, especially during the ongoing aggression once morest the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.”
Rajoub explained that this project came with a persistent effort on the part of the Palestinian Football Association with a group of sisterly and friendly national federations.
He pointed out that the Palestinian draft resolution includes two points: The first stipulates providing all the means of ability and positive conditions for the federation to work on developing sports and spreading them throughout all the territories of the State of Palestine; The West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, and guaranteeing our right to publish and develop in accordance with the laws, rules and regulations of FIFA.
The second point relates to subjecting the Israeli Football Association to accountability in FIFA, according to the regulations and laws that must apply to the behavior and performance of the Israeli Football Association.
Rajoub pointed out that, through “our legal reading, we see that the Israeli Federation violated FIFA’s rules and regulations in a group of issues, as it: practices and organizes periodically a number of clubs in settlements established on lands that are supposed to be under the sovereignty of the Palestinian Federation, but they participate in the Israeli league.” “.
The other point raised by Rajoub is “manifestations of fascism and racism practiced by components of the Israeli Federation, whose manifestations we see in the behavior of the occupation forces, which are in contact with us around the clock.”
The Israeli forces said, “We were forced to suspend all sporting activities, and we are unable to organize a league or even host national teams on our soil in continental competitions.”
The Federation President added, “The other issue that the Palestinian draft resolution in FIFA addresses is the genocide practiced by the occupation once morest our people, which also affected the sports family.”
He stated that “the number of sports martyrs reached 256 players, administrators and technicians, in addition to dozens of people missing under the rubble, and hundreds who were arrested in difficult and harsh conditions, in addition to the destruction of all sports facilities in the Gaza Strip, as the occupation forces turned them into centers for interrogation and torture.”
Rajoub stressed that “the Israeli Football Association did not express its condemnation of these crimes.”
He considered that this required national sports federations around the world not to provide protection to the Israeli Federation outside the circle of laws, rules and regulations that it did not respect.
Rajoub touched on Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz’s call for his arrest, saying, “What this minister expressed is a clear example of the Israelis’ mentality in dealing with us with superiority, and practicing terrorism once morest us to discourage us from conveying our message to FIFA and the world.”
In this context, Rajoub expressed his belief that “the various continental federations will side in favor of the regulations and laws of the International Federation, in addition to the moral and humanitarian dimension, and the value language of sport, which must be a bridge that connects all peoples.”
The President of the Palestinian Federation said, “We adhere to our right to manage and develop sports in accordance with FIFA laws, and we adhere to our right to subject the Israeli Federation to accountability for the violations it practices, including the crimes of the occupation once morest members of the Palestinian sports family.”
He stressed that “our cause is just, and we are based on the laws, rules and regulations regulated by international sports institutions, but Israel does not respect these laws, and we hope that international sports institutions will subject it to international sports regulations and laws.”
