Elaph: Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were encouraged to dress like the late Princess Diana, a new book regarding the royal family has revealed.
In an advance copy obtained by Page Six, journalist Omid Scobie wrote in his book “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Struggle for Survival” that Markle and Middleton “regularly replicated” Diana’s iconic looks, often wearing accessories “that were owned by “For the late princess.”
Scobie points out that given the fact that Markle and Middleton are married to the royal’s two sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, it “makes sense” for both women to have pieces owned by them.
The royal expert adds: “Over the past thirteen years, copying Diana’s fashion has become a staple of the royal family.”
Speaking to a royal insider who has “worked with” Harry, 39, and William, 41, Scobie says the “decisions” made regarding designing the Duchess of Sussex and Princess of Wales’ outfits with Diana in mind “were always discussed with either William or Harry. “
“Were there gentle nudges from others? Sometimes, yes. Someone has been known to go back and pull up photos of Diana at a particular place or time to get ideas,” the royal insider told Scobie.
“In the right moment, this can be a nice gesture, but there’s also a slightly unsettling feeling when you realize that they’re often orchestrated within the same system that contributed to her miserable living, and an institution that still wants to take away some of Diana’s brilliance. They have to,” The general editor writes.
Since Middleton, also 41, and Markle, 42, joined the royal family, they have been seen wearing pieces of their mother-in-law’s heirlooms.
In May, Markle was spotted wearing a Diana Cartier watch during an outing while her husband attended the coronation of King Charles III.
Middleton has also been seen several times imitating Diana.
In 2019, she stepped out wearing her famous mother-in-law’s ruby earrings. However, as mentioned earlier, she put her own spin on the classic piece.
Middleton also took inspiration from Diana in July, wearing a green jacket at Wimbledon similar to the dress the late princess wore in 1981.
The clothing of royal wives is one of many topics Scobie addresses in his upcoming book, which hits shelves on Tuesday.
He also writes regarding Markle and Middleton’s controversial relationship over the years, claiming that the latter “jokingly shivers” when the “Suits” star’s name is mentioned.
The controversial journalist claims the ladies had “almost no direct contact” even before Markle and Harry embarked on “Megxit” in 2020.
A source told Page Six that the upcoming book in no way helps the Duke of Sussex and his wife – who are “supposedly on a reconciliation tour.”
However, according to Scobie, there is “no going back” in Middleton’s relationship with Harry and Meghan.
“She was close to Harry, and will always look back fondly on those moments… and the relationship he had with their children… but for her there was no way she might trust them following that,” an insider claimed in the book.
