Nováková was born on January 17, 1928. In 1947, she was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts, but two years later she was expelled from the studio during political checks. In 1950, she married her former classmate, the painter Pavel Brázda. For roughly 40 years, they created together outside the official art scene.
From 1958, Nováková was allowed to devote herself to art, but neither she nor her husband were allowed to exhibit. She made a living mostly by illustrating professional, later children’s literature, in the years 1973 to 1974 as a draftsman of sherds at the Institute of Archaeology. At the same time, she devoted herself to free creation throughout her life.
Brázda first presented his works at an exhibition in 1967 at the Salon of Prague Artists. The first and until 1992 the only joint exhibition of the couple took place in 1976 in the Theater in Nerudovce. Only after 1989 did Nováková participate in dozens of exhibitions – alone, with her husband or in a group of authors.

Her works are full of dynamism, color and light. The work is permeated with the themes of birth, life and death. She also perceived the world around her thanks to her Christian faith. The main themes of her work are man and his suffering, biblical motifs and archetypal depictions of men and women.
The last solo exhibition of her works took place last year in the Prague contemporary art gallery DOX. In 2006, she received the Revolver Revue Award. This January, she presented her book Every step is a choice.
Her husband Pavel Brázda died in December 2017 at the age of 91.
