The outage that affected telephone and Internet services in La Tuque is over

LA TUQUE, Qc — The major outage that deprived residents of La Tuque, in the Mauricie region, of their access to residential telephony and the Internet is over, the City has confirmed.

On Facebook, the City of La Tuque indicated that the “major breakdown” was over at the beginning of the followingnoon and that the situation was back to normal. The interruption deprived Télébec customers in the La Tuque agglomeration of telephone and Internet access for a few hours at the start of the day.

“This outage was caused by an act of vandalism on Bell’s fiber optics which took place last night in the Grand-Mère sector in Shawinigan”, might we read in the notice from the City sent in the morning.

The restoration of service was initially planned “possibly around 5 p.m.”, according to the City, but shortly before 3 p.m., everything was back to normal.

The problem had no impact on cellular telephony and subscribers to Sogetel services.

As for the emergency services, the Sûreté du Québec had been made aware of the incident. The police force had also invited people to use their cellphones to contact 911.
