The Oscars of mobile photography: a photo by a Lithuanian earned recognition, establishing itself in the TOP 25 of the world | Culture

The photo “Jų vikas” taken by a Lithuanian with an iPhone mobile phone was among the finalists of this year’s global competition “iPhone Photography Awards” and won a special “Honorable Mention” award, announced in a press release.

From now on, R. Jarmalavičius’s collection includes six awards from this prestigious competition, called the Oscars of mobile photography. Previous nominations were earned in 2023, 2021 and 2019.

The same photo “Their Time” was selected as one of the TOP 25 best monochrome photos in the world this year, and entered the finals of the international competition “Monochromatic Awards 2024”. In September, it will be published in the annual album “Monochromatic – Best photographs” of Dodho photography magazine.

Photography professionals gathered by “Dodho” have selected R. Jarmalavičius’ work among the best monochrome photos in the world for the third year in a row.

The world-acclaimed black-and-white photo “Their Time” captures a moment on Tenerife’s Atlantic beach.

“Everyone can see their story here. I see a mother with her son on the last day of their vacation. And their fragile time together, which turns into a memory at the same moment,” says the author.

The work of R. Jarmalavičius, who is mostly famous for his black and white photos taken with a mobile phone, has already received more than 120 international awards.

R. Jarmalavičius has won the highest ratings in global photography competitions “PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris”, “Tokyo Foto Awards”, “ND Awards” and others. in 2022 in the published mobile photography rankings “World’s Top Mobile Photographer”, R. Jarmalavičius was recognized as the sixth in the world and the first in Lithuania.

R. Jarmalavičius graduated in journalism and photojournalism from Vilnius University, worked as a journalist and editor in various media for many years, has been managing the public relations agency “Publicum” he founded for 24 years, is a partner of the global communication group “Havas” in the Baltic countries.
