In a touching and tearful situation, actor Hui Kwan addressed his mother by saying, “Mom, I just won an Oscar,” as he accepted the Best Supporting Actor award at the Academy Awards ceremony, Sunday.
The Vietnamese actor recalled his difficult journey to the podium, saying, “I started my journey on a boat, and I spent a year in a refugee camp,” adding, “Somehow, I ended up here on the biggest stage in Hollywood. They say such stories only happen in movies.” I can’t believe it’s happening to me, this is the American dream.”
Kwan won the award for Everything Everywhere All at Once, and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Supporting Actress for her role in the same movie.
Kwan said his 84-year-old mother was watching him receive the award.
It is noteworthy that the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once is nominated for 11 awards this year.
