The elephant carcass was discovered by forest people 1 day ago (February 16) in Khe Tep area, in Lot 5C, Lot 12, Sub-zone 206 of Ban Dom 1, Chau Phong commune (Quy Chau district).

“The area where the elephant carcass was found is located deep in the natural forest, regarding 3km from a residential area. The elephant carcass was lying on a slope, there were no signs of abnormality around. Trees did not fall, did not detect signs of being trapped and hunted, “said the leader of Quy Chau district.

As noted, the wild elephant has decomposed all the meat, leaving only the scalp and bones. Through visual inspection, the bone was not broken and there was a spongy phenomenon. The delegation determined that the elephant had died more than a month ago.

Learn from the people, in the production forest area of ​​Dom 1 village, Chau Phong commune, there are often two female elephants without tusks.

Two elephants lived 50 to 60 years ago. This dead elephant has an advanced age, showing signs of aging, sickness, and slow walking.

“We currently do not have enough evidence to conclude the cause of the elephant’s death. However, it can be ruled out that it was murdered. Elephant death may be due to being too old and weak, along with cold weather and scarce food sources, “said Quy Chau district leader.

Regarding the remaining elephant, people said that recently, it also no longer appeared near residential areas. It is currently unknown where it is.

Before that, at around 0:00 on December 10, 2022, the wild elephant approached the house of Ms. Luong Thi Thai (SN 1975, residing in Dom 1 village, Chau Phong commune, Quy Chau district), trying to snatch her window with her trunk. her family.

Surprised and frightened, Ms. Thai’s family did not dare to open the door and ran out, only shouting for help from neighbors.

After breaking the window of Mrs. Thai’s house, this elephant continued to move to the house of Mr. Luong Van Mai (SN 1976) nearby, into the kitchen to rummage for food.

Upon receiving the information, the Quy Chau District Forest Protection Department coordinated with the people to use many measures to drive elephants into the forest.
