The original version of the phrase that has invaded fans’ minds for the past few days has received an answer from the owner of the song.
Although it has not officially returned, IVE’s pre-release track “Kitsch” has completed the task of paving the way, successfully conquering the entire online music chart in the country. In the Vietnamese market, the product has a pitch at No. 50 at the Billboard Vietnam Hot 100, marking the 3rd time the girls have appeared on the chart following two resounding hits – “Love Dive” and “After LIKE”. Released on March 27, “Kitsch” captivated listeners’ ears with its vibrant Dance melody, along with the addictive lyrics “19’s kitsch” when repeated many times. However, many music lovers expressed their curiosity regarding the meaning of this phrase.
It is easy to see Starship’s thoroughness when preparing subtitles in many languages in the MV of “Kitsch” including English, Korean, Chinese, Japanese and even Spanish. However, the common point of this subtitle is that the English phrases are completely preserved, making viewers wonder regarding the exact meaning of the lyric, including “19’s kitsch”. Some speculate that perhaps the lyrics have been replaced from the original “90’s bitch” – a pretty popular keyword in Western countries. It is possible that the company decided to change to match the group’s image.
Fans quickly got their answers just a few days following the song was released. Norwegian artist Sofiloud posted a duet video with IVE on Tik Tok and said the lyrics have been changed: “I wrote a song for my project a few years ago with four talented musicians and friends from Norway and the US. The original was called 90’s bitch. I didn’t use it for the project, so my manager referred it to IVE.” Below the video, many comments express their agreement to Starship’s intervention in exchange for lyrics because most of the members are under the age of 20. On the other hand, IVE will officially return with their debut album. titled “I’ve IVE” this April 10th.
