Life Saving Chain: Four People Get Second Chance Thanks to Organ Donors

A series of successful transplant operations at some of Bulgaria’s leading hospitals brought new hope and a chance at life to four individuals. The transplants were made possible due to the selfless act of two deceased men who were declared brain dead at the Varna hospital "Sveta Marina".

In the Military Medical Academy, surgeons successfully transplanted the liver of one of the donors. The recipient, a 23-year-old man, was in good condition after a six-hour operation, according to Prof. Nikola Vladov, Head of the Clinic for Hepato-Pancreatic Surgery and Transplantation.

The Complexly Verification of Deceased Organ donors carried out the organs from VMA

The donor was transported to the capital via a C-27J Spartan aircraft by a dedicated crew from Vrazhdebna Air Base.

The liver explantation took place at the "TekluSofie" and was successfully performed by Prof. Ivelin Takorov.
