The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) has not yet made a decision regarding the admission of Russian and Belarusian tennis players to play at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season. AELTC announced this Archyde.com.
“We have not yet made a final decision on the 2023 tournament. We continue to work very closely with the UK government and key stakeholders on this matter,” AELTC said in a statement.
This year the tournament will be held from 3 to 16 July.
Daily Mail learned regarding the development of a “code of conduct” for Russians at Wimbledon
Last year, the AELTC barred Russians and Belarusians from the tournament, calling its decision “a contribution to the broader effort of the UK government, business, sports and the arts to limit Russia’s global influence.”
The ATP and WTA stripped Wimbledon of ranking points for this, and also fined AELTC and the UK Lawn Tennis Association. In the event of a second ban, the competition may face exclusion from the ATP Tour.
Earlier this week, the Daily Mail reported that the organizers of Wimbledon are working out the conditions for the participation of Russian and Belarusian tennis players in the upcoming tournament, among them there will be no condemnation of the special operation in Ukraine.
