While the Senegalese Constitutional Council has blocked lists for the July 31 legislative elections – such as the list of incumbents from the opposition Yewwi Askan Wi, led by Ousmane Sonko, and the list of substitutes from the ruling coalition Benno Bokk Yakaar -, the Ministry of the Interior validated eight others. Among these is that of the Alternative coalition for a Rupture Assembly. The AAR Senegal wants to be a ” other opposition » and presented its program on Thursday 9 June.

Its logo: a tree on a mauve and blue background, the symbol of a place ” of dialogue, arbitration of conflicts and meetings “, according to officials of AAR Senegal. Headed by former Minister Thierno Alassane Sall on the national list, the coalition is proposing 14 priority reforms for the 14th legislature: economic patriotism, land governance, food sovereignty and parliamentary efficiency and functioning.

Because according to the deputy Théodore Chérif Monteil, “ we noted a certain dysfunction in the organization and organization of the National Assembly. Contracts are awarded and executed in complete opacity, without any call for tenders ».

The members of the coalition signed a charter on Thursday, read by Marième Soda Ndiaye, the youngest member of the current Assembly:

« Convinced of the need to stop an infernal cycle of broken promises and dangerous populism, determined to stimulate a responsible and republican momentum towards a new political path formed by a peaceful and propositional opposition. This is to straighten out our country ».

According to the charter, the members of the coalition remain free to stand as presidential candidates in 2024. For the time being, focus on the legislative : the pre-campaign period officially opens on Friday 10 June.
