Tambacounda, January 15 (APS) – Agents of the Regulatory Body of the Goods Warehouse Receipt System in Senegal (ORSRE) are staying in Tambacounda (east) to raise awareness among farmers regarding the opportunities offered by this public structure, said noted by the APS on Monday.

Senegal has adopted a tool to help market agricultural production, ORSRE, they reminded farmers, explaining to them that the warehouse receipt system offers credit and a guarantee.

”The warehouse receipt is a financial document allowing producers to raise funds from ORSRE partner institutions,” explained the head of the public body’s mission in Tambacounda, Ibrahima Badji.

Before its creation in 2017, farmers did not have this possibility of raising funds and securing their production, according to Mr. Badji.

Significant storage needs for agricultural products still exist in Senegal, despite the efforts made by the State, he said.

”Our role is to raise awareness among producers, so that they take ownership of these warehouses […] Some producers have tried the warehouse receipt.”

Forty warehouses have already been approved in the eastern and central regions of the country, according to Ibrahima Badji.

The beneficiaries are producers of peanuts and other cereals, he said.

Mr. Badji drew the attention of farmers to the importance of warehouses meeting storage standards to avoid crop losses.

”The receipt gives our producers the possibility […] to have the raw material and to operate throughout the year,” assured the head of the ORSRE information mission in Tambacounda.

He adds that ”the warehouse receipt system is at the same time a means of access to warehouses for storage and conservation”.
