the operator is launching a new modem that is faster but will also cost you more

Those who do not have wifi coverage in all corners of the house can install an amplifier. To do this, Telenet has for some time now offered its customers the possibility of renting a wifi booster free of charge. If other bosssters are needed, they can hire them for 2 euros per month. However, this offer will end on May 27. Customers who have already rented a free booster will be able to continue to do so following this date. Telenet will also continue to replace faulty boosters “while supplies last”.

Telenet is launching a new, more modern modem with Wi-Fi 6. This can be amplified by “pods” from the American brand Plume. As the latter are more efficient and more expensive, the company indicates that it is no longer possible to rent them for free. The operator asks for 3 euros rental per pod and per month. The number of pods needed for good Wi-Fi coverage depends on the home. Telenet speaks of one to two devices per floor.

For now, Telenet will only install its new modem to certain target groups. Those who opt for the new Wi-Fi system with pods will get one anyway. In addition, new customers who opt for a 1 Gbps connection will also receive one. Customers who are not part of these groups, but who still wish to obtain the new modem, will have to pay an exchange fee of 50 euros for the time being.

Unlike the old boosters, the new system is “dynamic and self-learning”, according to Telenet. It allows devices to automatically connect to the most appropriate Wi-Fi pod and direct internet traffic as best as possible, including when you walk around the house. The system also takes into account external factors, such as the neighbour’s Wi-Fi network or other jammers.
