The operations of the Burundian soldiers deployed in the DRC are progressing unhindered

“Under the command of a senior Congolese officer and his Burundian deputy, operations are advancing unhindered while the negative forces are fleeing from the advance of our soldiers,” said Floribert Biyereke, spokesman for the National Defense Force of Burundi (FDNB) during a lively press briefing on Friday August 26, 2022. He advises the Burundian population and the international community not to listen to the media, social networks and organizations that spread false information regarding ongoing operations.

To put an end to insecurity in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Heads of State of the member countries of the East African Community agreed, on Monday June 20, 2022 in Kenya, on the establishment of a regional force.

Restore peace and security

Mr. Biyereke suggests that, faced with the deterioration of security in the locality of the province of South Kivu, Burundi and the DRC had to take the lead by pooling forces. The two countries aim to restore peace and security by neutralizing the negative forces that are sowing desolation in this part of the DRC. He reported that movement to the area of operations began on August 15, 2022 while actual operations followed sometime following the pooling of forces. Currently, operations are moving forward unhindered as the negative forces flee. These forces, he said, are under the command of a senior Congolese officer and his deputy, a senior Burundian officer. The logistics and everything necessary to carry out the mission are the responsibility of Burundi.

Mr. Biyereke did not fail to challenge the Burundian population and the international community not to listen to the media, social networks and organizations that disseminate false information regarding the operations in progress. These information manipulators have no other aim than to support terrorist groups
