Madagascar will reduce the use of energy produced from the use of fossil fuels by accessing the use of clean renewable energies, with the support of the Fund of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for international development, the presidency announced in a press release on Friday.
The announcement came following the official meeting Thursday in Vienna, Austria, of the Malagasy Head of State, Andry Rajoelina, with the Director General of the OPEC Fund for International Development, Abdulhamid Alkhalifa.
The same source said that around 250,000 bioethanol stoves would be distributed for two years in Madagascar, and solar kits would also be distributed to around three million households, as part of a project called “Clean cooking and reforestation”.
In addition, up to 500,000 hectares of forest area would also be protected under the project, according to the statement. End
