The onset of winter causes unemployment to rise

The estimated unemployment rate at the end of November in the Rohrbach district was 1.9 percent. It is therefore 0.3 percentage points higher than in November of the previous year and 0.2 percentage points higher than in October of this year. The Upper Austrian unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in November. By age, 87 people under the age of 25 are unemployed in the district (up 16 compared to the previous year) and 156 people over the age of 50 (up 3 compared to the previous year). In November 2023, 229 people registered as unemployed, 189 people started a job or ended unemployment for other reasons. “The combination of a slowing economy and an earlier start to winter unemployment, particularly in construction, is leading to a slightly higher increase in unemployment compared to the same month last year. Employment is still slightly above the previous year’s level. Companies are making great efforts to employ their workforce to retain the company and are increasingly using hiring commitments,” says AMS branch manager Doris Steiner.
