This team is truly unique in the Upper Austrian lower house of football: The Union Schiedlberg kickers celebrated their eighth win in their eighth game on Sunday with a 3-0 win in the 1st Class East against Kronstorf. “We’re having a great run,” says Schiedlberg sports director Jakob Machreich.
Schiedlberg’s goalkeeper Christoph Sturmberger had several reasons to celebrate today: The goalie kept the goal clean for the eighth time on his 36th birthday – and rewarded not only himself, but also his teammates after the final whistle with a winning keg of beer. But the good souls in the background, like canteen manager Christoph Wasserbauer and Roswitha Weiß, were also happy about the noble donation. “This community is what sets our small club apart. We wanted to get promoted last season, and we’re trying again this year,” says Machreich.
Despite the flawless start, Machreich warns of the strong competition in the league: “Sierning started as the top favorite and is getting better and better. Neuhofen, Waldneukirchen or Hofkirchen also have to be taken into account.”
