The lawyer of the 19-year-old’s family, Yiannis Mandraou, addressed the many questions that exist regarding whether the amusement park where Yiannis was killed in Pefkohori, Halkidiki, met the necessary safety conditions.
“Since the beginning of July, the Police has informed the relevant municipal authority in the Municipality of Kassandra about the illegal and irregular operation of the business” he underlined while speaking on the ERTNews show “Connections”.
Referring to the next moves of the families, Yiannis Mandraou pointed out: “We are at a very early stage of the pre-trial. So far no statement has been filed in support of the charge, so we are not in a position to know much about the unanswered questions.”
“Dangerous space”
“The omissions and irregularities are not only related to the licensing part,” he noted, adding that the information that has emerged informally confirms serious omissions at the amusement park, which made the area dangerous. “Experts have noted specific defects that make the site dangerous.” The issue concerns both licensing and operating conditions,” he said.
In addition, the lawyer noted that the amusement park business had been operating illegally for some time, as the final permit was issued late. “The license was given late and for two months no one knew it was operating legally,” he added.
“Delays and omissions raise questions about the honesty and effectiveness of the process,” he added.
In closing, the lawyer for the 19-year-old’s family pointed out the need for transparency and efficiency in the judicial process, in order to deliver justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.
