The oldest person in the world died in Spain

Maria Branyasthe women Catalan woman considered the oldest person in the world and the eighth documented in history, has died in Spain at the age of 117.

According to Spanish media, Branyas died on Monday, but the news only came to light on Tuesday because the family wanted to protect the moment of intimacy.

The woman, born on March 4, 1907 in San Francisco, USA, was considered the oldest person on the planet, after the death a year and a half ago of the French nun Lucile Randon, aged 118. Now, the Japanese woman has taken over. Tomiko Itooka, aged 116 years and 89 days.

His name became known four years ago, when he managed to overcome Covid-19 in 2020, the hardest period of the pandemic, at the age of 113.

The news of her death was shared by her family through a tribute to the old woman: “Maria Branyas has left us. She died as she wanted: while sleeping, peacefully and without pain.”

He died in a nursing home in the municipality of Olot, in the province of Girona.
