You are cleaning your house. There is an old painting in the kitchen that has been gathering dust and smoke for years. what will Oh, and think it’s an old picture and throw it in the trash? Or will it burn? However, there is one woman who went out of her way to do just that. But what they destroyed was a painting worth crores.
In 2019, the family was cleaning their house. At that time, the idea of what to do with the painting that had been lying on top of the kitchen stove for years came. Thinking it was a normal picture, the owner decided to have it checked by an expert. It is then identified as the 13th century Florentine master Cimabue’s “Christ Mocked” painting. Even the owners know that it is worth crores only following realizing that it is an original painting.
So, the painting was put up for auction. Recognizing that this painting is a national treasure, the Louvre Museum tried to acquire it, but might not find the funds to do so. Thus, for over 210 crores, prominent economist Alvaro Zeyh Bendek and his architect wife Ana Guzmán Anfelt from Chile acquired this work of art for their personal collection.
However, the French government has temporarily canceled the painting’s export license because it wanted the painting not to be lost. The Louvre Museum was also given 30 months to raise the money to acquire it. So four years later, the necessary funds were found and the Louvre Museum acquired the painting. Now those who visit the museum can also see that painting.
