Barcelona has finally managed to keep French winger Ousmane Dembele in the team for a longer period.
The 25-year-old’s contract with the Catalan club expired on June 30 and he became a free player entitled to move to any other team, but the player has always made staying in Barcelona a priority.
After a series of intense negotiations with Dembele and his agent, it was agreed to sign him for another two seasons contract at Barcelona.

How did Barcelona succeed in renewing Dembele?
The Spanish newspaper “Sport” said that the Frenchman had renewed his contract and the matter was completely resolved unless an unexpected disaster occurred within the next few hours.
She explained that Barcelona sat with Moussa Sissoko, the player’s agent, more than once during the past few days, to elaborate the details of his signing of a new contract.
She pointed out that the remaining margins to settle matters officially have become very slight and bear no importance for both parties, amid news of the French’s agreement to reduce his salary by 40% of his salary in his previous contract.
The newspaper confirmed that the official announcement of Dembele’s renewal may be this week, following all the last details have been completed.
Xavi hold the password
“Sport” revealed the great role played by coach Xavi Hernandez in the survival of Dembele, in addition to Jordi Cruyff, the club’s technical advisor, despite the tension between Dembele’s agent and sports director Matilo Alemani.
Thus, Dembele acquiesced to Barcelona’s adherence to its financial conditions, in exchange for signing a short-term contract commensurate with the club’s financial constraints.
Barcelona is set to continue its activity in the transfer market following keeping Dembele, as the Catalan club is looking to add Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and Leeds United’s Brazilian winger Rafinha to its attack line.
