The Walloon Parliament office has decided to exclude Frédéric Janssens. Targeted by a disciplinary procedure, the former clerk of the Walloon assembly had been suspended from his functions since September 15, 2022.
The Parliament of Wallonia has decided to dismiss his former clerkFrédéric Janssens, targeted for several months by a disciplinary procedure.
Meeting on Wednesday, the Bureau of the assembly decided, “by secret ballot and unanimously, to propose the disciplinary sanction of automatic resignation”, Jean Bourtembourg, the lawyer of the Parliament of Wallonia, announced this Friday in a press release.
Alongside the disciplinary procedure initiated within the Walloon Parliament, Frédéric Janssens is also the subject of legal proceedings relating to acts of harassment and the award of public contracts.
Janssens however has the possibility of now filing a appeal once morest the decision. If necessary, the Bureau of Parliament will then make a definitive decision on the basis of the opinion of the Board of Appeal. “In order to strictly respect the procedure, the members of the Bureau of Parliament will not make any communication on this file,” specifies the press release.
Moral harassment
The former clerk of the Walloon assembly had been suspended from his functions since September 15, 2022, in the wake of revelations regarding the expensive management of two construction sitesincluding that of the House of Parliamentariansand complaints filed once morest him for moral harassment.
Since last March, this suspension measure had been accompanied by a deduction of 20% of his salary. His benefits in kind had also been withdrawn (company car, mobile phone and representation expenses).
Alongside the disciplinary procedure initiated within the Walloon Parliament, Mr. Janssens, who maintains his innocence, is also the subject of legal proceedings relating to acts of harassment and public procurement.
In a press release to the Belga agency, Mr. Janssens said “to be surprised” by the “heavy sanction” proposed. “The Bureau of Parliament (has) chosen not to wait for the outcome of the judicial investigations which it itself desired and which it invoked to justify the extension of my suspension”, underlines the former clerk.
“It is hoped that the written document which will reach me in the coming days will allow me to understand the motivation for the Bureau’s decision for what goes beyond political considerations. Depending on the content of the decisionI will take an attitude regarding a possible appeal“, he concludes.
