The number of viewers of the Golden Globe Awards decreased

About 6.3 million watched the Golden Globes on NBC, down nearly 9 percent from those who watched the last ceremony on television two years ago, according to viewership data released by the network on Wednesday.

The ceremony watched 6.9 million in 2021. Last year’s Golden Globes were not broadcast due to a scandal of diversity and ethics within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which votes to decide the winners.

This year’s ceremony was moved to Tuesday instead of the usual Sunday, so as not to interfere with NFL games.

The viewership ratings on Tuesday are usually lower than Sunday during the league matches. The viewership numbers NBC reported for Tuesday’s ceremony do not include viewers on the Peacock live-streaming platform.

All Hollywood awards ceremonies in general have seen declining viewership ratings in the past few years.

In January 2020, the Golden Globes ceremony was watched by 18.3 million people. The ceremony was hampered by the restrictions imposed by the Corona pandemic, which forced many award nominees to appear via video.

Big star presence
NBC agreed to broadcast this year’s gala on a one-year contract following the league diversified its members, who did not include any African-American journalists, and made other changes.

The network said that despite the decline in viewership on television, the content of the Golden Globe ceremony on (e! News) and the network’s digital platforms recorded regarding 11 million views, an increase of 54% from 2021.

The ceremony was attended by top Hollywood stars. Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans” won the award for best dramatic film, and Irish black comedy “The Banshees of Evil” won the award for best musical or comedy.

The two awards will increase the chances of the two films winning the Oscars, which will be announced next March.
