Carpooling is on the rise! Since the launch of a 100 euro bonus for first-time drivers in 2023, the government has tripled the number of carpooling trips in just six months. The goal is to reach 3 million shared journeys by 2027.

Choose carpooling for daily trips home/work. An ecological gesture that saves 2,000 euros in fuel costs on average. To convince the French to favor carpooling, in January the government introduced a check for 100 euros for all new carpoolers who reach 10 carpooling trips. The goal is to reach 3 million shared journeys in 2027. The goal should be reached on time.

1 million carpool trips per day

And the government is saying it loud and clear. In six months, 5 million journeys have been made by carpooling, which is almost three times higher than in 2022. “We have almost 150,000 drivers who have entered the carpooling system. We have just exceeded the bar of 1 million carpool trips per day. So yes, the commitment of 3 million in 2027 is tenable, but there is work to accelerate further”, welcomes the Minister of Transport, Clement Beaune.

To achieve the goal, everyone is involved, including employers. The Carrefour group even offers to go further than the government’s 100 euro bonus. “Any employee who is eligible for the boost that the government has put in place, when he converts to carpooling, can go to Carrefour. Carrefour doubles this aid. We had, on the experimental basin in Île- de-France, more than 2,000 employees who have switched to the practice of carpooling”, explains Quentin Bardet, director of HR transformation at the Carrefour Group.

The bonus of 100 euros is extended at least until the end of 2023.
