The number of cholera cases in Sudan has risen to 17,000

The Emergency Operations Center of the Sudanese Ministry of Health said in a statement that 366 new cases of cholera were reported, including 11 deaths, in 6 states.

He added that the total number of infections since the start of the epidemic reached 17,411 cases, including 535 deaths, distributed among 60 localities in 10 states.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that it had implemented several activities to combat the epidemic, including home visits, organizing community dialogues, and intensifying awareness campaigns through the media and social media platforms.

The Ministry of Health in the Nile River State also announced that the number of cholera cases had risen to 4,388, including 98 deaths.

The state Ministry of Health statement indicated that 109 new infections were recorded today, bringing the cumulative number of infections to 4,388 cases, including 98 deaths. There are 156 cases receiving treatment in isolation centers, while 4,134 people have recovered.

Cholera began spreading in Sudan on August 12, after the country was exposed to torrential floods and heavy rains that swept across large areas. It is feared that stagnant water will become a suitable environment for the breeding of epidemic and disease vectors.

In a related context, the Sudanese Ministry of Health confirmed that it had not received any new reports of dengue fever, as the total number of cases reached 378, including two deaths, distributed among 9 localities in 4 Sudanese states.

The statement indicated that Khartoum State recorded the highest number of dengue fever infections, reaching 292 cases out of the total cases in the country.
