The Novavax vaccine arrives on the North Shore

The new Novavax vaccine arrives in the region. The CISSS Côte-Nord would like to inform the public that special clinics to administer this vaccine are planned in Baie-Comeau and Sept-Îles on April 28, 2022. The other vaccines once morest COVID-19 will also be available during these clinics by appointment. you.

This vaccine is recombinant protein, not messenger RNA, like Pfizer and Moderna. The difference is that instead of injecting us with a portion of the RNA (ribonucleic acid) of the virus that allows our body to create the S protein of COVID-19, we are directly injected with the S protein that causes COVID- 19. Thus, the person’s immune system recognizes that this protein is foreign and will therefore fight the virus. Our body will therefore recognize COVID-19 if we are infected following receiving the vaccine.

Novavax is currently authorized in Quebec for people aged 18 and over. The government hopes that people who are reluctant to use the Pfizer or moderna vaccines for various reasons will be more open to getting the Novavax vaccine.

The Novavax vaccine schedule includes two doses. These two doses are administered intramuscularly.
