A recent study published by the Confederation of SMEs (CPME) highlights the salary situation of managers of very small enterprises (VSEs) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in France. The survey, carried out among 1,331 business leaders, reveals that 20% of managers receive a net monthly remuneration lower than the minimum wage, i.e. less than 1,400 euros. This data calls into question the often conveyed image of employers who are systematically well paid.
Small bosses, small salaries
The CPME emphasizes that the majority of entrepreneurs do not benefit from exorbitant salaries. Indeed, 31% of respondents earn between 1,400 and 2,600 euros per month, while 25% are in a bracket of 2,600 to 4,000 euros. Only 25% of managers questioned say they receive more than 4,000 euros monthly. “The result is clear: no, business leaders do not care.” don’t fill your pockets », insists the confederation.
The study also sheds light on the daily challenges faced by business leaders. The CPME emphasizes the difficulties inherent in the management of a VSE or SME, particularly in terms of regulations and administrative constraints. She reminds us that running a small business is not an easy task and should not be equated with managing a large, smaller business.
A complex administrative environment
The CPME press release echoes the complexity of the entrepreneurial environment, where business leaders often have to navigate a labyrinth of sometimes unknown rules and can even be held criminally liable in the event of non-compliance with some of them. This aspect highlights the importance of knowledge and understanding of current laws and regulations for entrepreneurs.
The results of this survey in any case invite us to reconsider the cliché of easily paid French employers. It highlights the dedication and, sometimes, sacrifices of entrepreneurs who choose independence and commitment to their projects, despite financial challenges and uncertainties.
