The non-profit association ‘La Lumière’ is launching a photo workshop for the visually impaired

How do participants manage to take their photos? It depends on the degree of disability “some do not see colors, others have only central or stained vision“explains Joannie. But, even if they can see partially, participants sometimes need help. To do this, they can rely on their other senses, on a buddy or on a voice-over, an application that describes the landscape and guides the photographer with a voice so that he frames his photo as well as possible.

This workshop was born thanks to Joannie who is passionate regarding photography. She wanted to pass on her knowledge and prove that disability is not an obstacle “the purpose of the workshop is above all to share and raise awareness among the general public. But for the participants, it is above all a means of overcoming the handicap and of proving that they can take photos even though they cannot see much“. Joannie knows what she is talking regarding, she is now a photographer at the Standard de Liège football club. Thanks to audio description, she listens to the match and has fun photographing the stands.
