While a lot of information leaks week following week on the Switch 2, Nintendo’s future console should not be released as soon as expected.

The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to make waves this fall. Since the console was shown behind the scenes at Gamescom at the end of August, information has been leaking periodically. The console would thus support Nvidia’s DLSS as well as ray tracing for a power that should bring it closer to the PS4 and Xbox One according to the latest news.

If the numerous leaks indicated a release date of 2024, an interview with Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo, gave several details on the schedule planned by the manufacturer.

A Switch 2 not before the 2nd half of 2024

It is the specialized media Nikkei who was able to question the Nintendo executive on the future of the Switch 2. As always stingy with information, he however revealed that we should not expect the console before the second half of the year 2024. If this echoes his previous statements last spring, other rumors spoke of a release planned for the beginning of the year.

Nintendo does not intend to abandon its original Switch, the objective is to sell an additional 15 million by the end of the fiscal year, i.e. until March 2024. Shuntaro Furukawa also wanted to reassure players: the first Nintendo Switch will be supported in 2024 and 2025.

The big unknown at the moment is the subject of backward compatibility between the Switch 2 and the current model. This was one of our questions in our file on our expectations regarding the future console and we will still have to wait to have a definitive answer.
