Crucial decisions for the future of their mobilizations are taken in today’s general meetings by the farmers of the whole country. The Thessalian farmers decided to escalate their mobilizations, until their demands are met. In Northern Greece, farmers are returning to their fields in anticipation of the Government’s initiatives.
The Serrai farmers left the blockades, “the struggle does not stop but takes another form”, they declare. “We are not closing our ears, there is a pending meeting between the Prime Minister and the people of Thessaly,” said Government Spokesman Pavlos Marinakis.
Following in the footsteps of the farmers, the beekeepers from almost the entire country gathered in Syntagma Square. Their demands include, among other things, the illegal Greekizations as well as the production costs that have become unbearable.
The Thessalonians remain in the blocks – They shape their forms of struggle
The Thessalian farmers at the Platykampos junction made the decision to stay and continue with parallel actions in coordination with the rest of the blocks in which the farmers will decide to continue their mobilizations.
Possibly during the weekend there will also be a Pan-Hellenic meeting of the farmers in order to determine their next actions.
Regarding the Thessalian farmers and their meeting with the Prime Minister, for the next day in Thessaly, it seems that it will take place in the first ten days of March.
Beekeepers in Athens – Protest once morest production costs, Greekisation and the climate crisis
Syntagma Square was filled with beehives and beekeepers who, wearing their uniforms, lit the smokehouses and demonstrated for their demands. As they said, they are concerned regarding the climate crisis that is already here. The beekeepers placed empty hives in front of the Parliament wanting to show that their beehives are disappearing, honey production is decreasing and there is an urgent need to take measures to support them.
This was followed by a meeting with the Minister of Rural Development that lasted more than three hours.
“A personal commitment, as well as that of the Prime Minister himself, that we will be relentless in the controls on issues of Greekization is something that concerns us. Already the bill that will be passed next week essentially creates an extremely stricter sanctioning framework” said Lefteris Avgenakis.
“There were commitments regarding the control process towards the product in order to give value to the Greek producer, but to give value to the money of the consumer who respects us,” said a member of the beekeepers’ coordinating committee.
According to the Pan-Hellenic Coordination of Beekeepers’ Mobilizations, their demands are:
• Combating Hellenization (Administrative measures and controls on imported honey.)
• Reduction of production costs
• Removal of the restrictive fire regulations
• Removal of restrictions of local Foresters.
• Pollination subsidy. Full inclusion in the CAP and greening.
• ELGA reform and total compensation for lost livestock.
• Movement of beekeeping trucks on the side road network.
