Like many manufacturers, Mercedes Utilitaires is also embarking on the race for electrification. Thus was born a complete range of utilities and electric vans to suit different uses. At the very top of the range is the Mercedes eSprinter, which with its larger battery of 47 kWh useful promises 157 km of WLTP range. But the next generation might go further, much further.
If it will be necessary to wait until the beginning of February to discover this new fully updated version, the Mercedes eSprinter demonstrates the extent of its capabilities through a first test in real conditions, without any particular preparation, and duly validated by the certification body TüV Süd.
A battery of more than 100 kWh to come for the Mercedes eSprinter?
Launched between Stuttgart and Munich in an express delivery simulation, the electric utility managed to travel 475 km on a single charge. And this without being refueled once, as evidenced by the seal affixed to the charging hatch at the front. In the end, the average consumption indicated a value of 21.9 kWh/100 km, while there was only 20 km of autonomy left in the battery when it returned to the foot of the Mercedes museum.
If Mercedes was transparent regarding the roads and highways taken, as well as the topography, the journey time and the average speed are unknown. Also, it appears that the utility was running empty for this first performance. In any case, this initial information suggests significant improvements in efficiency, and the arrival of a battery of more than 100 kWh.
