Preparing the Next-Gen update for the game Fallout 4which was released in 2015, the developers from Bethesda already announced in October 2022. But it was postponed in December 2023, and only yesterday, following the premiere of the new Fallout series from Amazon, a specific release date was published: April 25, 2024.
This one free of charge the update will primarily concern improvements to the game on the current generation of Xbox Series X|S and PS5 consoles, on which it will already run as a native application and it will be possible to choose a performance mode with 60 FPS or a quality mode. There will also be stability improvements and various fixes not only to technical aspects, but also to quests. The update will also come to older Xbox One and PS4 consoles, but it will “only” improve stability and fix it.
Next-Gen update na PC
To be prepared Next-Gen update can also be enjoyed by PC gamers, where native support for monitors with higher resolutions, including aspect ratios, will finally be added ultrawide (if I now install and run the game on Steam, without any modifications to the configuration files, when using a monitor with a resolution of 3840×1600, I only have 2560×1600 to choose as the highest resolution), while unspecified fixes to the Creation Kit and updating of various quests. Stability improvements, mods and bug fixes were also mentioned. The update will apply to all versions of the game on Steam, Microsoft Store and GOG. Login issues should also be resolved when using Japanese and Chinese.
The stability improvement on PC is desirable, because when I ran the game now following a long time to try it out on Steam without any modifications, following loading an earlier save, it repeatedly crashed into Windows following less than a minute, regardless of the selected resolution and full-screen or windowed mode. That’s not a very good calling card for Bethesda (now owned by Microsoft) when the game was released in 2015, which isn’t that long ago.
Fallout 4 v Epic Games Store
Together with the release of the Next-Gen update, it will now be possible to buy the game in the store Epic Games Store (in the “Standard” and “Game of the Year Edition” versions, however, the prices are not listed yet). Fallout 4 will also get the “Steam Deck verified” label.
Bethesda is also teasing new content for free under a modding platform called Creation Clubspecifically to the following sets: Enclave Remnants, Makeshift Weapon Pack, Halloween Workshop.
Finally, we can recall the trailer on the occasion of the release of the game or the earlier trailer published as part of its announcement (both of which I personally consider very successful):
