Geir Magne Staurland is thus done as responsible editor in Natt&Dag. So are society editor Eilif Guldvog Hartvedt and art director Stig Buvarp. Since 1988, Kulturavisen has existed in various formats.

– We have worked around the clock and done everything we can to safeguard and renew Natt&Dag’s unique voice, says Staurland in a press release.

During the pandemic, the newspaper was closed down, at that time with Ida Wammer as editor. It was then revived in January 2023 with Staurland as editor. So now it’s over again.

– We have been successful in many areas. We have created different journalism that many people have been willing to pay for, created a national debate, shaken Kjendis-Norway and written about the culture that no one else has written about. However, it has not been enough. The advertising market is one big Sahara, and the wallets of our target group are modest, especially in expensive times, says Staurland.

General manager of Natt&Dag, Christian Fure, adds that they simply haven’t had the muscle to finance the project on their own and have been fighting a tough uphill battle for a long time.

Natt&Dag has recently become known for its rivalry and criticism of the cultural newspaper Subjekt. In February, Natt&Dag was complained to Pressens Faglige Utvalg (PFU) for body comments in social media towards guests at the Vixen Awards.
