The New York Times: Hamas May Have Attacked Israeli Military Base Where Nuclear Weapons Are Stored

According to the article, the rocket, which was probably fired by Palestinian Hamas militants during the invasion of Israel, hit the Sdot Miha military base, located 42 km from Jerusalem.

Hans Christensen, director of the Nuclear Information Project of the Federation of American Scientists, claims that there are likely 25 to 50 Jericho nuclear missile launchers in the area.

“These warheads are most likely stored in a separate location, away from the base, so they were not at risk during the attack,” H. Christensen commented.

It is noted that although the missiles themselves were not injured, the attack caused a fire in the surrounding area.

The New York Times claims this is the first known instance of Palestinian militants striking a facility believed to be storing nuclear weapons. At the same time, it is noted that it is not clear whether Hamas was aware of this or whether the object was targeted randomly.

October 7 Hamas hitmen invaded Israel, where they began killing and kidnapping both military and civilians. Shortly thereafter, Jerusalem launched Operation Iron Swords, shelling terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip.

After a temporary truce on December 1. Israel has resumed hostilities in the Gaza Strip. The Israel Defense Forces said Hamas had violated the terms of the cease-fire.

Israel opened fire after Hamas refused to release the hostages, including two children, according to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
