Vowles does not hide his “pride” about his troops

Williams F1 launched its 2024 season with the presentation of its new livery, while waiting to discover the FW46 the day before winter testing. James Vowles, the team director, is pleased to see that this launch marks progress for his team.
“I’m very proud of what the team has done, in several areas. Look at the car compared to last year, and the number of sponsors on it. And when I look at the livery, there is a nice progression in the blues, which show us where we come from, this subtle salute to the time of Frank” declared the Briton.
The former Mercedes strategist now hopes that Williams will move closer to the ideal goals he has set: “I’m very proud but seventh place doesn’t mean much to me. We did a good job, not great, but good work.”
“And there is excellence, and we want to close the gap to achieve excellence. It wasn’t possible in the first year, but we will get there, through perseverance, through belief, which are higher than ever.”
But if he says he is happy to have been able to launch Williams’ season, it is the FW46 shakedown that he is looking forward to. Vowles recalls that seeing a car take to the track for the first time is a unique moment in a season.
“I can’t wait to experience the smell and sound of the first drive, and that feeling when you are behind the car and watch it come out of the garage for the first time in Bahrain. That feeling is incomparable.”
“The significance of that is 12 months of work, that’s what it is today to design and build a car. You look at that, and it’s the hard work of almost 1,000 people coming down to a few seconds.”
