The new WhatsApp function that everyone was waiting for has arrived – Enseñame de Ciencia

WhatsApp statuses allow you to share text, photo, video and GIF updates that disappear following 24 hours and are end-to-end encrypted. In order to receive status updates from your contacts and for them to receive yours, you and your contacts must have each other’s phone numbers saved in your phone’s contact book. Lately we have seen several updates in this regard and it seems that the experience will improve significantly. Now WhatsApp is working on a new function that allows you to report status updates

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a feature to provide the ability to report a status update for a future WhatsApp Desktop beta update. This might help the moderation team keep the platform safe for all users.

You may not be aware of this, but it has long been possible to report messages and contacts to WhatsApp in case you believe their Terms of Service have been violated. For example, when you report a user, you can choose to forward the last 5 messages of the conversation to WhatsApp, as well as report individual messages. What if someone uploads something that violates your Terms of Service via status updates? Well, so far there’s nothing you can do, but that’s regarding to change.

In order to make the messaging app a safer and more comfortable place for everyone, WhatsApp is working on a fix for status updates that violate our Terms of Service. Very soon the update will come by supporting a status report feature for WhatsApp Desktop beta.

In the screenshot below you can see how it will be possible to report a status update right inside a new menu in the status section. This way, you can report suspicious status updates to the moderation team that may violate their Terms of Service. As with reporting messages, the status update will be forwarded to WhatsApp for moderation purposes so they can see if there are any violations.

In case you’re wondering, this new feature doesn’t break the end-to-end encryption of the platform. Much has been said that both messages, voice calls, media, location sharing, calls, as well as status updates are protected by end-to-end encryption protocol in all your devices; the protocol implies that no one, not even WhatsApp, can see the content of your messages and listen to your private calls.

WABetaInfo Contributors they explain that it is important to bring a report option to keep the platform and other people safe. “Every other instant messaging app has a report feature that works exactly like this.” Finally, it is worth mentioning that the ability to report status updates is a feature under development and will be released in a future WhatsApp Desktop beta update. Beta testers will be the first to receive the new feature. If you want to switch to the beta version of WhatsApp, click here.
