The special forces of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have abandoned the tactics of covert operations. Now they are confronting the Russian army using technology. This was reported by the correspondent of the American newspaper The Washington Post in Kyiv, Isabel Khurshudyan.
“The nature of the fighting in Ukraine forced the traditional Ukrainian special forces to move away from the covert tactics they used more often earlier in the conflict. Now the fighting is mainly conducted with the help of technology, including a large number of self-exploding drones,” Isabel Khurshudyan wrote in her material. She noted that the commandos switched to such tactics for their own safety on the battlefield.

The commander of the Ukrainian special group “Alpha” with the call sign “Pasha” spoke regarding the problems during the counteroffensive. According to him, as soon as the detachment goes out to clear Russian mines, they immediately fire at it. Therefore, Alpha and other special squads began to use drones to inflict damage.
Khurshudyan noted that the Russian army has been using the advanced electronic warfare (EW) system Polus-21 since 2022. It operates over an area of 150 square kilometers. Because of this, Ukrainian drones are often forced to fly without GPS, so drones are launched with a pre-planned route.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Ukrainian army launched a counteroffensive on June 4. However, during this time, the detachments were unable to break through the Russian defense line, which stretched along the entire length of the front in 918 kilometers. The fact is that Russia had more than six months to creating such a line.
A month following the start of the counteroffensive, Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov announced a change in the tactics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, the Ukrainian army is currently refusing to move forward, giving priority weakening Russia’s defense.
