The new Social Security City officially inaugurated
Claude Haagen, Minister of Social Security, and Alain Reuter, President of the Common Compensation Fund for the General Pension Scheme (FDC), in the presence of Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, proceeded on Thursday to the official inauguration of the new Cité de la sécurité sociale, in rue Alain Mercier, near Luxembourg station.
Built in 1984, the emblematic building of the National Health Fund (CNS) on the route d’Esch thus reached the end of its life. These premises, already enlarged, had reached their limits in terms of space and dilapidation. The new City of Social Security will welcome in the coming months some 1,000 employees who were piled up on the road to Esch. Covering 52,000 m², twice as much as the old building, the Cité de la sécurité sociale will offer at least 1,230 workstations, 18 counters for receiving policyholders and a waiting room with 220 seats. Built from March 2019 to December 2022 with up to 450 workers on site, the first phase of the site is accessible by train, tram, bus…
But with this building, the City of Social Security is not yet finished. The second phase of construction will be launched in the fall of 2023, with a second building, on the same site, for the National Pension Insurance Fund, the Fund for the future of children and the FDC.
