The iPhone 15 launch has happened and the device has certainly made a splash in the tech world. But did you know that all variants of the latest model lack the much-anticipated silicon chip that tech giant Apple spent billions to create?
The news really raised eyebrows, because not only did the development cost a fortune, but it also took a long time. So why is the chip missing? That’s what a new report published today by the Wall Street Journal asks.
The article states that the race once morest time and the use of all available resources was aimed at getting on the right track and ensuring the chip’s inclusion in the latest iPhone 15 lineup. Today we learn Today the business was not easy, not to mention the many obstacles that punctuated the production process.
The famous Wonderlust event for the new launch took place with absolute success last week. It was undoubtedly a much anticipated event. However, the device and its latest features haven’t impressed everyone, that’s for sure.
The Cupertino company had considered including the chip in order to reduce the importance that its supplier Qualcomm had for it, the media added.
Almost four years ago, the two technology giants established a licensing agreement which gave rise to a legal debate between the two companies, but which ended successfully.
At the same time, another FT report raised the possibility that Qualcomm might propose a deal that would result in the production of 5G modems from which the maker of the iPhone and its devices might benefit.
But Apple did intend to produce its own modems. The latter is the name reserved for the technology that connects the iPhone device to several wireless operators. And this, just in time for the production of the latest phones.
Indeed, a series of tests carried out last year demonstrated that the chip in question was susceptible to overheating and causing damage, not to mention its slowness, which constituted another major obstacle.
