She is 19 years old, studies Nursing at the UBB and following a year of practicing the discipline, she is the great new promise of powerlifting in the Ñuble Region.
Luis Toro began competing in March 2023, a season in which he led the -75kg sub-junior Classic rRaw category and took second place. He was the strongest in the Classic Raw Zonal Sur category tournament held in Santa Bárbara.
“I got into this sport as a self-improvement process, since I hadn’t practiced any discipline before, so what powerlifting taught me is that even if you have a bad day, you always have to go train or give your best performance on those days to start improving. If you take it to your personal life, that should always be the goal,” says the young athlete.
My achievements
Toro is the current national champion in the -82.5 kilo sub-juniors Class Raw category (competition with bandages) and holds four national records: in squats with 235 kgs, in bench press with 135 kgs and deadlift with 272.5 kgs and setting a record with a total weight of 642.5 kgs.
He also holds a South American title, which he won in September of last year.
“I was the champion in the -75 kilogram sub-junior category and I also broke the record for the same category with 200 kilograms. All these competitions with bandages. My next goal is one of the closest ones I have: I am the strongest athlete among the sub-juniors in Chile, in the bandage category.” His next challenge is to represent Chile and the southern part of the country in the Ibero-American Championship in the -82.5 kg sub-junior category, which will be held on August 30-31 and September 1-2. His dream is to attend a World Championship.
“My parents are the ones who support me financially, because I don’t have any sponsor or company that supports me in my sports career,” concludes the future champion of powerlifting.
