Super Mario Bros. Wonder hasn’t been released yet, but fans have already had the idea of reproducing the mustachioed plumber’s final transformation in Mario 64.
Mario is back in 2D
Only a few days left now to wait until the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the brand new 2D platformer dedicated to Nintendo’s mascot. The mustachioed plumber returns with a resolutely old school adventure which will play the nostalgia card to the fullest, but not without adding a good dose of new things.
What strikes you first with this new opus is certainly its more “cartoon” artistic direction than usual with designs that are even softer and more colorful than in any other previous opus. Obviously, this Mario Wonder is not just a simple graphic overhaul. Mario will be entitled to a whole bunch of new abilities to save the Kingdom of Flowers, including the famous elephant transformation, which was particularly highlighted by Nintendo.
The elephant transformation is found in Mario 64
Since its presentation, Mario’s new elephant transformation has caused a stir among players. Rather divided on the subject, the community doesn’t really seem to be a fan of this new look. That being said, some fans were sufficiently won over to want to transcribe the transformation within Super Mario 64. It obviously takes place on an emulated PC version of the game and everything was designed by the modding collective SM64ex-coop.
The design was created by modder Koop the Koopa, who added different colors to the transformation. With the mod, it is possible to change the color of Mario’s overalls, as well as his skin color. The result is frankly convincing, but it remains purely aesthetic. With this mod, Mario does not have any new skills. To discover the real final result, you will have to wait until the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder on Switch, October 20.
