The new Dacia Bigster sets out to conquer the C segment: “We focused on simplicity with geometric lines” | French.pl

The new Dacia Bigster is no longer a secret. The bigger brother of Duster was presented at a special show for journalists. You can read a report from this event enriched with numerous photos here. The SUV is of great importance to the Romanian brand. This is a step that will allow the brand to better exist in the C segment. This is what the manufacturer says about the new model:

As announced in January 2021 as part of the presentation of the Renaulution strategic plan, Dacia, the European leader in the B segment, is setting out to conquer the C segment. Today, the brand is entering the C-SUV market with a unique offer in the form of the Bigster model, which is the embodiment of its values - focus on what is most important, essential but cool, environmental friendliness, durability and outdoor character – and tailored to the specific requirements of customers in this constantly growing market. Currently, many users of cars from the C-SUV segment who want to change them to a newer model without sacrificing the appropriate level of comfort, performance and space, are refraining from making the decision due to inflation.

The new Dacia Bigster is more than just a “bigger Duster”. New engines, including powerful LPG and 1.8 Hybrid

Denis Le Vot, CEO of Dacia: After introducing the Renaulution plan in 2021, we completely changed the brand concept and created its new identity: new colors, new logo, new segments, new sales points. We have remained true to our strategy and, at the same time, our actions have made Dacia more attractive and ambitious than ever before. And as always, it offers the best price-performance ratio. Today, with the Bigster, it meets the expectations of C-segment customers better than ever.

Dacia enters the C-SUV market with a carefully thought-out product strategy. After the new Bigster, two more models are to be launched on the market.

The new Dacia Bigster and promises kept

In January 2021, the Dacia Bigster Concept, the symbol of Renaulution’s strategic plan, showed its ambition to reach a higher level: the C-SUV segment. The Bigster Concept was a very specific promise that generated many expectations.

Today, the model fulfills all the promises made in the concept version.

David Durand, director of Dacia design: In the new Bigster, we managed to reproduce with great fidelity all the intentions expressed in the Bigster Concept. The Bigster embodies to the highest degree all the values of the Dacia brand, of which it has now become the flagship model.

Dacia brand values perfectly match the requirements of the C-SUV segment. The design of the model clearly emphasizes its solidity and ability to accompany our clients in their professional activities, family trips or trips to nature. Its large body shape, devoid of unnecessary elements, is emphasized by a system of simple, geometric, dynamic lines. Massive mudguards protecting the wheels, as well as front and rear lights located on the extreme sides, additionally enhance the impression of the Bigster’s solidity and stability on the road.

Robustness and Eco-Smart concept

The impression of solidity of the New Bigster and its strong personality are further emphasized by the massive, vertical front of the car, typical of SUVs. The front of the body is also typical of the Dacia brand with its large, black, glossy grille and the “Dacia link” logo located in its center. The horizontally placed, contoured hood was designed to provide the driver with the best possible downward visibility.

The design of the new Bigster – although economical – does not forget about accents reflecting the idea of being “cool”, which is one of the brand’s values and the subject of expectations of buyers of cars from the C-SUV segment.

But Dacia does it in its own way. Graphic elements decorating the front and front doors and placed above the rear license plate add an accent of casual elegance. However, instead of following the fashion for shiny black, Dacia designers decided on a more solid and durable combination of glossy and matte black.

The new Dacia BIgster combines solidity with complete freedom and the eco-smart concept. The front and rear skid plates are solution-dyed, making them more durable and durable. The protective elements that run around the body – along the sides, on the wheel arches and at the bottom of the bumpers – are made of Starkle® material. As part of its sustainable approach, Dacia uses this material, developed by the brand’s engineering team and made partly from recycled raw materials, in a raw, unpainted form (more information below).

Dacia Bigster in indigo color and with a black roof

Very Dacia-style and therefore very pragmatic, the new model adapts to the preferences and habits of C-SUV segment users. The Bigster comes standard with 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, while 19-inch wheels with original graphics are available as an option on the top Journey trim level. In higher equipment versions, customers can also choose – for the first time in Dacia’s offer – a two-tone body (with a black roof), harmoniously emphasizing the silhouette of the car.

A new body color is also available: Indigo blue. This metallic paint, available only in the new Bigster, adds elegance to the car and discreetly emphasizes its prestigious character.

New Dacia Bigster – trunk

David Durand continues: When working on the interior design, we tried to maintain one of the main advantages of the New Bigster, which is its exceptional spaciousness. That’s why we focused on simplicity with geometric lines referring to the body design, as well as the high quality expected by buyers of cars from the C-SUV segment.

Space, ergonomics and modernity

In the interior of the New Bigster, designers focused on what is most important: space, ergonomics and comfort. The very vertical and high dashboard increases the amount of space available for front-seat passengers.

For maximum simplicity and efficiency, all driving-related information is grouped on a 7-inch or 10-inch (depending on trim level) digital instrument cluster, and all infotainment-related information is displayed on the central 10.1-inch touchscreen inch (installed as standard in all Bigsters). Both screens are connected by an elegant green line, ensuring their harmonious visual integration into the dashboard.

Depending on the equipment level, the new Dacia Bigster is offered with one of three types of center console for the front seats: low, medium or – for the first time in the brand’s cars – a high console with an armrest (and a cooled compartment), an inductive charger and a spacious storage compartment.

Y-shaped motifs

Particular attention was paid to the appropriate selection of seat upholstery – depending on the equipment, emphasis was placed on: simplicity and comfort (Bigster Essential and Expression), durability and ease of cleaning (Extreme) or maximum comfort (Journey).

The link between the exterior and interior design of the New Bigster are the “Y”-shaped motifs, characteristic of the car’s light signature:

  • In the cabin, they are located on the air vents, the surface of which forms the shape of the letter “Y” (brown-copper in the Extreme version), and on the door handle frames.
  • On the outside of the New Bigster, the Y-shaped LED front and rear lights create a distinctive light signature.

The Dacia Bigster: Seriously Big News or Just a Duster in Disguise?

Well, well, well, the new Dacia Bigster has rolled onto the scene, and it’s certainly making a lot of noise—much like the last time I tried to do stand-up in an echoey hall. This is no secret; it strutted its stuff at a special showcase for journalists, fancying itself the ‘bigger brother’ of the Duster. With all that bravado, you might expect it to tell dad jokes and outperform a two-for-one comedy night, but can it really deliver?

What’s Cooking in the C-SUV Kitchen?

The Bigster is like Dacia’s intended leap from the kiddie pool straight into the deep end of the C segment. Now, before your brows furrow in confusion—yes, the Romanian brand is trying its hand at the C-SUV market. It’s doing this with promises of environmental friendliness, durability, and whatever else the market research suggested they should say to make potential buyers swoon. But is it essentially just a larger Duster wearing a different outfit, or does it actually bring something fresh to the table?

Denis Le Vot, CEO of Dacia, is clearly brimming with excitement: “We changed the brand concept!” And yes, I bet his family is thrilled—now they can finally have a chat about something other than the weather. The Bigster is (allegedly) the car buyers in the C-segment have been waiting for; that’s if they can get past the price-to-performance ratio—sounds like a joke waiting to happen.

Bigster: Keeping It Real (and Cool)

Speaking of keeping it real, Dacia brand values slap you right in the face like a startled cat with its ‘no-nonsense’ design and robust exterior. The Bigster is boasting a “solid” look, “dynamic lines,” and mudguards that make it seem like it’s ready for a mud wrestling contest—but in a natural park setting, of course. If this car had a dating profile, it would say it enjoys long drives through nature… and has a taste for eco-friendly materials. How charming!

Pimp My Ride, Dacia Style

Now, if you’re hoping for all the bells and whistles—as if the car was going to sing you a lullaby while making you toast—prepare to temper your expectations. The interior is designed for “space, ergonomics, and comfort,” which basically means they’ve squeezed in some screens and hope that’ll do the trick. A 10.1-inch touchscreen? Amazing! But remember, you might still struggle to fit your entire family and the dog in the back seat without a domestic squabble erupting. So good luck with that!

Dacia has also added some Y-shaped motifs in their design, because nothing says “I’m a modern SUV” quite like shapes that remind you of a letter from the alphabet. These Y’s pop up both outside and inside—it’s their version of contemporary chic meets ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. Who doesn’t want a vehicle that makes them feel like they’re driving through an art installation?

Conclusion: Is Bigger Really Better?

So, is the Dacia Bigster a marvel of modern engineering, or just a hefty Duster with a glow-up? In the comedic world of cars, only time will tell. It comes packed with new powerful engines—which is an excellent move—or it just might end up being a cautionary tale about inflated expectations. But hey, if you’re looking to join the crowded C-SUV market and want to do it on a budget while sporting some attractive aesthetics (and maybe turning a few heads), the Bigster has a seat waiting for you. Just remember, in the end, it’s all about what drives YOU. Or rather, what will drive you without leaving you broke!

So there you have it, folks. Keep an eye on the Bigster, and who knows? It might just convince you to trade those aspirations for a more spacious ride. And if it doesn’t, there’s always the public transport option… although, let’s be honest, that might just bring its own set of problems—like standing shoulder to shoulder with the world’s most enthusiastic snorer!
