During The Game Awards 2023, SEGA announced that they are working on rebooting many of their classics such as Jet Set Radio, Street’s of Rage, Crazy Taxi and many more. However, the one that has been making headlines recently is Crazy Taxi, which is being developed by Sapporo Studio.
In a new video Released in Japanese, producer Kenji Kanno, who was the director of the original Crazy Taxi game, and other members of the development team share new details about the reboot. According to the video, the development team is currently testing the adaptation of the classic game, in which players transport passengers to destinations as quickly as possible, to a multiplayer game world.
The new version will take place in a large, realistic city based on the West Coast of the United States, with a “theme park-like” map, according to the video.
Sega describes the game as “a major new online title” with an open world and “massively multiplayer racing game” elements developed in Unreal Engine. Beyond this, the approximate release date for this upcoming title and what platforms it will be available on are unknown. We’ll just have to wait for SEGA to provide more information.
