“The new constitution resulting from the recommendations of the Inclusive National Dialogue constitutes an opportunity to build our country” –

In his speech to the Nation on the occasion of the celebration of the 64the anniversary of Gabon’s independence on August 17, 2024, the President of the Transition, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma, who overthrew the Ali Bongo regime on August 30, 2023, informed the public that the next constitution in the making will be more democratic and inclusive to involve all the vital forces in the work of building the country.

“The new constitution resulting from the recommendations of the Inclusive National Dialogue constitutes an opportunity to build our country,” declared Mr. Oligui Nguéma during his message to the nation.

The new strongman of Gabon thus calls on the Gabonese people to turn the page on the reign of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), the former ruling party whose 56-year governance, deemed approximate, has been criticized in recent years. “I remain deeply convinced that the regrettable errors of recent years will soon be nothing more than a distant memory in the history of our country.”affirmed Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma.

After paying a warm tribute to the late President of the country’s independence, Léon Mba, the Gabonese number one did not fail to call on the Gabonese people to endorse his governance in order, he said, to establish Gabon in modernity and shared prosperity.

“In the coming days a referendum will be organized and we will be required to decide; I invite you to participate massively,” he pleaded.

This referendum will be held at the end of next December. Several political parties and civil society are already working for the yes vote.
