This fall, Apple launched its new connected watch, the Apple Watch Series 9, at the same time as the iPhone 15. The latest iteration in a long line, this version brings some improvements including a more powerful processor, a brighter screen and software with some nice new features. During the sales, the recent Watch Series 9 saw its price drop from 449 euros to 399 euros at Amazon.
Apple products rarely benefit from attractive promotions the year following their release, except during promotional events such as Black Friday or winter sales. After the iPhone 15 which benefited from an unprecedented price drop this weekend, it is the turn of the Apple Watch Series 9 to display its lowest price since its release on Amazon. In its 41 mm version and GPS only, the latest connected watch from the Apple brand is reduced by 11% and thus falls below the 400 euro mark.

Apple Watches are resolutely connected watches lifestyle with careful aesthetics and a high-end OLED screen. Even though the design is a copy and paste from previous generations apart from a few details, we can salute the care taken and the quality of the finishes. On the other hand, autonomy still lags behind the competition. As with the previous model, Apple announces 18 hours of autonomy and 36 hours in energy saving mode. In our test, it took 28 hours for the battery to go from 100% to 10% during normal use.
On the screen side, Apple opts for the same OLED screen as the Watch Series 8 to the nearest pixel per inch (326 ppi). The only notable change here is the brightness which now peaks at 2,000 cd/m². We can regret that other improvements have not been made such as an increase in the refresh rate which does not go beyond 60 Hz. However, this does not prevent you from enjoying fluid animations. In addition we find an Always-On mode which, combined with the adaptive refresh rate of the LTPO panel, consumes very little energy.
A watch that obeys the finger and… the other finger
With watchOS 10, Apple promises to make its connected watches smarter and sportier. In addition to the introduction of machine learning, the Watch Series 9 inaugurates Double Tap, the new feature that has attracted the most attention. With a double pinch between the thumb and index finger facing the screen, it is possible to react to a notification displayed on the screen, and thus stop the ringing of an alarm clock, answer a call, set pause your playlist, etc. A good idea on paper, but which would have benefited from being expanded and even working with third-party applications.
Athletes are not left out, especially cyclists and hikers. The former benefit from a new application to measure speed, pedaling cadence or even the FTP index (Functional Threshold Power), and the others a new 3D compass which indicates places with cellular network or where it is possible to make a satellite call. Overall, the Apple Watch Series 9 provides good health and sports monitoring thanks to its numerous sensors, including a particularly reliable GPS and heart rate monitor.
