Since childhood, Promes loved football and supported Ajax Amsterdam. He said that he often ran to the playground in his native Osdorp region, where he had to fight with “blood, sweat and tears” for the right to play on the team. The first football school was RKCV, and then he was taken to the Ajax football club. His parents’ divorce led to problems with discipline, and he was expelled from his beloved FC. Then he even thought regarding giving up football, but his mother persuaded him not to give up the sport. As the player himself said, what happened made him change his outlook on life and set a goal – to return and play for Ajax.
The beginning of Promes’ football career
At the age of 19, Promes signed his first contract with the Twente school from Enschede. Based on the results of 2017, he was recognized as the best football player of the year in Russia. In the new season, he played for the first time in the Champions League, the main club tournament in Europe. The performance was unsuccessful for Spartak, but in the home match once morest Sevilla the Muscovites won 5:1, and Promes scored two goals and was recognized as the best player of the match.
