The Hague – Prime Minister of the Dutch interim government, Mark Rutte, called on Israel to avoid any possible large-scale ground operation in the city of Rafa in the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
This came in a post on his account on the “X” platform, yesterday, Wednesday, following his conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Rutte added that during his conversation with Netanyahu, he touched on the entry of more humanitarian aid into Gaza, the permanent ceasefire, and the possible military operation on the city of Rafah.
He noted that he assured Netanyahu of the Netherlands’ strong support for Israel’s security, adding: “I am glad that tensions have not escalated further in the past few days.” “All parties must continue to exercise restraint.”
Rafah Governorate, adjacent to the Egyptian border, is the last refuge for the displaced in the Gaza Strip, and it currently contains more than 1,400,000 Palestinians, including 1,300,000 who were displaced from other governorates under the weight of violent bombardment by the Israeli army.
Israel insists on invading Rafah, claiming that it is “the last stronghold of the factional movement,” despite increasing international warnings of catastrophic repercussions, in light of the presence of regarding 1.4 million displaced people there.
Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a war on Gaza, which has left more than 112,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and famine and massive destruction, according to Palestinian and UN data.
Israel continues its devastating war despite the issuance of an immediate ceasefire resolution by the UN Security Council, and despite its appearance before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”
